Alexa: Optimized Algorithm & New Data Sources

Alexa ScreenshotAlexa enjoys a solid standing throughout the web industry. The site provides graphs of visitor trends for any website (at least for the ones that actually have a certain amount of visitors). After entering a specific website address the traffic chart appears with geographical distribution stats.

Main point of criticism: census methods

Pixelotto ends with $153.000 draw

Alex Tew, the creator of the MillionDollarHomepage did not receive too much publicity for his spinoff project Pixelotto. His plan was to collect $2 million and to give away half of that sum to one lucky winner. The concept has only been slightly changed to the MDHP: to get one mini ad you had to pay $200 (although you could buy more than one ad), which accouts 2$ for one pixel instead of $1.
